Photos take on Ben’s new iPhone 4s

Wednesday, November 2nd, 2011

We celebrated Ben’s 29th birthday on Saturday night with four friends. We planned the board game Carcassone and enjoyed cheesecake and champagne. See the photos taken with Ben’s new iPhone (bday present from mom and dad).

Mint tea

Wednesday, November 3rd, 2010

In college, I began drinking tea more regularly. I enjoyed Earl Grey. I also learned to appreciate jasmine and green teas (this was around the time that pearl milk tea was a big craze in California). Through my tea drinking experiences, one flavor I disliked intensely was peppermint tea. I love peppermint hot chocolate and I like mint-flavored foods like ice cream and candy. I even enjoy a mojito which is a drink made with mint leaves. However, the smell of mint tea made me gag (reminded me of hot toothpaste). My husband and cat both love mint tea (my cat likes to lick the tea bags). However, this weekend, while Ben was in town, I decided to taste the mint tea that he was enjoying… and I decided it wasn’t so bad! It was actually quite tasty. The smell is still kind of weird to me, but the taste is different than the smell. Ben said it tastes refreshing and cool in spite of it being a hot drink. Lesson learned: my tastes can change and I should try things I think I don’t like. Things like boats (seasickness), scary movies, abalone, sea cucumber, chiles rellenos?

Day Two: Espresso

Saturday, May 8th, 2010

I caved in on day two of my coffee fast and had a single espresso shot. It was tasty and my stomach didn’t go nuts. Ben came to visit me this weekend and I took him for a visit to the Baltimore Museum of Art next door to Johns Hopkins. We had a lovely sip of coffee/tea at Gertrude’s, the restaurant inside the museum. We also enjoyed a productive trip to Wegman’s where I again found ramps! These ramps were half the price of those sold at Belvedere Square (Planet Produce) and don’t require calling ahead in order to buy them.

Pan-friend yams

Sunday, November 8th, 2009

Followed the recipe that Grace used. I made the following modifications: used yams instead of sweet potatoes; didn’t peel the yam; used fresh garlic; tossed more often to prevent over-blackening; used iodized salt instead of kosher salt. Click the photo to see the whole slideshow.

Wine of the week

Monday, September 7th, 2009

One person drinking a bottle of wine is difficult for me. It takes me about a week. Good thing I have a nice vacuum pump.

This week’s wine was chosen because of its screw top (I didn’t feel like uncorking the other bottle of Merlot that Ben bought me).

2008 Gotham Cabernet Sauvignon

The color is very dark. Fruit flavor. I like it! No bitter aftertaste or weird woody/plastic-y complexity. I would buy this Australian wine again.
