Tonight I watched an episode of “Unforgettable,” the new CBS show. It was an older episode about ghosts and an insane asylum. Not recommended but I was knitting and passing the time while Ben did some work on his laptop. We had a nice evening–ate gnocchi and salad for dinner after attending the Saturday night church service at Capital Church. Then I spent some time taunting the cat. She was in a fun, playful mood tonight so I teased her with a catnip-laced toy mouse and the yarn I was using for knitting.
Tomorrow morning, we will try to get tickets for the Sundance Film Festival at 9 am. Means we gotta go to bed early tonight. I am also planning on putting in a full day of lab experiments. It’s been a pretty busy time at work since my boss returned from paternity leave.
A few weeks ago, Ben and I played a game of “cribbage” while watching Steve Buscemi (actor from “Boardwalk Empire” TV show) being interviewed by Jimmy Fallon. See the progression of Waverly’s patience.
Waverly has been to the vet 3 times in the last 4 weeks. So sad She had 6 teeth extracted in one visit. In her most recent visit, the vet took an x-ray of her toe and told us that her pinky toe is broken. Nothing to do except keep an eye on it and give her some pain medication. Hope she can heal and mend on her own.
Here is a photo of our poor baby. Notice she is missing fur from both arms. Her arms were shaved during her dental surgery to accommodate the IV and heart rate monitor.
Today, Ben and I took Waverly to the vet for the first time in the last 6 years that we’ve had her. She was not happy to be poked and prodded. She got 2 vaccines (for rabies and feline distemper) and had blood drawn. When she returned home, Waverly immediately enjoyed a hearty serving of cat food and began a very long nap (after an exhausting, stressful morning). In a few weeks, she will have to re-live her unhappy visit because we are contemplating scheduling her for a teeth cleaning. The vet said her gums were pretty red (gingivitis) and she seems to have plaque built up over the last several years. Sad and stressful, but I imagine this preventative care will save us major infection or health problems in the future.
While Ben prepares to move out of his Chicago apartment, our cat Waverly has been moved to La Crosse, WI to live temporarily with her grandparents, Mary Jo and Dave. Here are some photos I took while visiting Waverly in her new residence. She’s lucky to have such nice big windows where she can watch the birds. She also has thousands more square feet of space to explore and enjoy.
Followed the recipe that Grace used. I made the following modifications: used yams instead of sweet potatoes; didn’t peel the yam; used fresh garlic; tossed more often to prevent over-blackening; used iodized salt instead of kosher salt. Click the photo to see the whole slideshow.
